Barcelona Loan Kochen to Danish Side Lyngby This Summer

American goalkeeper Diego Kochen is expected to leave FC Barcelona on loan this summer, with Danish Superliga club Lyngby Boldklub reported as the leading destination for the 20-year-old. According to ESPN, Barcelona are open to the temporary move so that Kochen can accumulate regular playing time and continue his development away from Camp Nou.

Kochen spent last season operating as Barcelona’s third-choice goalkeeper behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, appearing on 40 matchday squads without featuring in a competitive first-team match. He did make 20 appearances for reserve side Barça Athletic in the fourth tier of Spanish football, and his sole senior outing for the club came in a 2023 friendly against Club América. His contract with Barcelona runs through 2028, meaning any departure this summer would be a loan rather than a permanent transfer. Lyngby, who were promoted to the Danish Superliga ahead of the current season, are reported to be open to a season-long arrangement, with Kochen understood to be receptive to the move.

A product of the United States youth system, Kochen has represented the national team at under-16, under-17, under-19, under-20, and under-23 levels. He holds eligibility for Venezuela and Peru but has committed exclusively to the United States. He was called into senior USMNT camps twice in 2024 and is currently with the squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a training goalkeeper, a non-rostered role that makes him ineligible to play in the tournament.

Kochen will remain in the USMNT environment for the duration of the United States’ World Cup campaign. The Americans, who defeated Senegal in their most recent match, next face Germany before concluding the group stage against Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey. A loan agreement with Lyngby, if completed after the tournament, would give Kochen his first sustained run of senior competitive football.
