Former college football standout Levi Wyatt dead at 23
Levi Wyatt, the 23-year-old cornerback who played for Jackson State and McNeese State, died in a car accident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Mississippi, according to state officials. Jackson State confirmed his death that same day through an official statement.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, cited by WLBT-TV, officers in the city of Jackson responded to a crash report shortly after midnight and found two damaged vehicles at the scene. A Chevrolet Camaro reportedly struck a utility pole. The Hinds County medical examiner identified Wyatt as one of the victims, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mississippi Highway Patrol was investigating the incident, according to reports.
Wyatt had been named to the second-team Preseason All-Southland Conference in 2024 before joining the Jackson State Tigers. In the 2025 season he accumulated 12 tackles and four pass breakups, and played in the SWAC Championship against Prairie View A&M on December 6, 2025, at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
In its statement, Jackson State expressed: “The bond of this brotherhood does not end when the game clock runs out. Today we mourn the loss of our brother, Levi Wyatt,” and asked the “Tiger Nation” community to join in prayer for the player’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
