Jonathan Cooper Booked on Domestic Violence Counts in Colorado

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathan Cooper and a woman were arrested Friday on suspicion of two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief, according to Douglas County jail records. Both were taken into custody following an incident at Cooper’s residence in Colorado.

According to a probable cause affidavit cited by TMZ, an argument erupted over cheating allegations between Cooper and the woman, described as a long-term on-and-off partner. The woman threw Cooper’s phone against a wall and subsequently attempted to search through it. A physical struggle over the device followed, after which Cooper demanded she leave his home, reportedly threatening to break her phone if she refused. When she did not leave, he broke the screen of her iPhone, the affidavit stated.

Cooper appeared at a hearing at 9:45 a.m. in a Douglas County courtroom and was released on a personal recognizance bond, according to local station 9NEWS. A follow-up hearing is scheduled for Monday, at which Cooper is expected to enter a plea. The Broncos had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.

Cooper, 28, has played his entire five-season NFL career in Denver after the Broncos selected him out of Ohio State in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. He recorded 50 tackles and eight sacks across 17 games last season and signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension in November 2024. The legal proceedings now introduce uncertainty around his availability as the Broncos head into the offseason.
