Owens Accuses Jerry Jones of Prioritizing Business Over Winning

Terrell Owens, former Hall of Fame receiver who played two of his 15 NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, criticized team owner Jerry Jones on his new podcast “Get To The Point”. According to Owens, Jones prioritizes media relevance and economic gains over winning a Super Bowl, even though the owner himself insists that is his goal.

The comments came after the start of the 2026 NFL season, in which Dallas fell to the New York Giants. Owens compared Jones, 83, to President Donald Trump, arguing that “he says whatever” and that many fans believe him without questioning it. He also claimed that Jones sells fans “a fantasy” and showed “signs of narcissism” by refusing to relinquish full control of the organization.

Jones bought the Cowboys in February 1989 for $140 million and under his leadership the team won the Super Bowls of 1993, 1994 and 1996. However, Dallas has not returned to a final since then. Despite that drought, the franchise is today the most valuable in the NFL, with estimates of $15.5 billion according to Sportico and $17 billion according to Forbes.

Jones acknowledged his disappointment with the start of the season, but assured that the team remains “optimistic” regarding its playoff and Super Bowl chances in 2026.
